A little late, but certainly not too late to remember the passing of Vic ten years ago on the 15th October.
It is difficult, for me at least, to envisage what he would have looked like now in what would have been his 64th year. If he could have been with us he might have reflected on all the changes which had taken place since the end of the Second World War. Perhaps he might have thought that many of the "liberal" ideals which he cherished had, unfortunately, disappeared but more likely his natural optimism would have told him that they had only become temporarily misplaced. I do know that whatever views might have been expressed by others on the subject would have been met by him, whether he agreed with them or not, with some very strong arguments, forcefully stated but tempered by a great deal of humour.
He would have been saddened by the plight of Tottenham Hotspurs in the early matches of this new season but his heart probably gladdened in the last few days by their first win under their new manager, Harry Redknapp. However, the fact of Arsenal in ascendancy would, as always, been a hard pill to swallow.
He is often in our thoughts.
