In August 1980 Peg and Ted had been married 50 years. Their 6 children decided that they would throw a party, at the Bellingham Green Community Centre, for the friends and relatives of their parents. They had been married at the Camden Church in Peckham in 1930 but at that time there had been just 30 guests at their wedding reception because there was insufficient money available for a larger affair. However for this celebration they had 120 guests.
In 1980 Peg and Ted had been living in Bellingham for 41 years and at that point they had 13 grand-children and 1 great-grandchild.
Ted, who was a former tram and bus driver, met Peg through her father, George Hall, with whom he used to work in the late 1920s in a furniture removing business, called, possibly, Margolies.
The family had departed from 49 Elfrida Crescent on the 15th March 1952, George’s 14th birthday. At this time Ron was in the army in Egypt where he met up with a regular soldier by the name of Fred Watson. When Ron, on demob leave, arrived home in Elfrida Crescent he had discovered that the family had departed for Farmstead Road.
By December 1953, probably to the great surprise of Peg who was then 45 years old, the last of the family was born, Rosalind Carol, known as Ros. There were now 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls. There is a great disparity in their ages with Ron 21 years older than Ros. In 1955 Pat married Fred and Ron married Beryl and they moved out to their respective marital homes.
